TL;DR: USPOULTRY funds $363,000 for research at two universities, targeting poultry diseases and aiming for non-antibiotic disease prevention methods.
TUCKER, GA. — The US Poultry & Egg Association and its Foundation have granted $363,000 for new poultry studies. These grants, allocated to two leading academic institutions, target key challenges within the poultry sector.
The funded projects include:
- At North Carolina State University: Research into Necrotic Enteritis in Chickens, focusing on immune responses for non-antibiotic prevention methods.
- Iowa State University receives two grants:
- A study on Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale’s impact on commercial turkeys through both cross-sectional and longitudinal epidemiologic research.
- Advancement in diagnosing and controlling Infectious Coryza, exploring non-pathogenic Avibacterium paragallinarum (npAP) strains for their potential in disease prevention.
The selection of these projects was guided by the USPOULTRY board, with the Foundation Research Advisory Committee recommending the proposals for funding. This decision was based on several competitive proposals aiming to address immediate industry needs.
Financial support for these initiatives comes in part from generous donations to the USPOULTRY Foundation, contributed by a variety of poultry and egg producers, alongside individual and family benefactors.
This funding is part of the broader efforts by USPOULTRY to direct resources towards significant research areas through its Board Research Initiative Program. This program complements the association’s Comprehensive Research Program by adding a focus on specific topics of interest. Over the years, more than $36 million has been reinvested into the poultry industry through research grants, benefiting over 50 universities and research institutions across the nation.
