US Beef Makes Inroads in Angola with USMEF and USDA Partnership

TL;DR: In a concerted effort to tap into the burgeoning African market, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has partnered with the USDA on a strategic trade mission to Angola, aimed at promoting U.S. beef. With Africa’s positive economic and demographic outlook, this collaboration seeks to address challenges and unlock new opportunities for the U.S. red meat industry. Through educational initiatives and market outreach, including a promotional event at Luanda’s leading retail chain, Fresmart, USMEF is committed to showcasing the quality of U.S. beef and pork to Angolan buyers.

The U.S. The Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has embarked on an ambitious trade mission to Angola, joining forces with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to bolster the presence of U.S. beef in the African market.

This initiative reflects a broader strategy to leverage Africa’s promising market dynamics, including its projected population growth, GDP increase, rising personal income, and expanding tourism sector, for the benefit of the U.S. red meat industry.

Matt Copeland, serving as USMEF’s Africa Representative, played a key role in the Angola mission, participating in a series of engagements that included market briefings, site visits, and trade meetings. These efforts are part of a larger endeavour to deepen market penetration in Angola, building on USMEF’s prior outreach activities aimed at educating Angolan traders and buyers on the unparalleled quality of U.S. red meat.

In the lead-up to this trade mission, USMEF, in partnership with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, organised a significant meat promotion event at Fresmart, one of Luanda’s premier retail chains. This collaboration was designed to directly engage with the market and highlight the advantages of U.S. beef and pork, further emphasising the federation’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the Angolan market.

The USMEF and USDA’s collaborative mission to Angola signifies a strategic push into the African continent, where economic indicators suggest a ripe opportunity for U.S. red meat exports. Through targeted promotional efforts and ongoing market education, the initiative aims to carve out a significant niche for U.S. beef and pork in Angola, setting the stage for continued growth and collaboration in the region’s promising market landscape.
